Coalitions and Parliamentary Representation
In 2002, under Maathai’s leadership, our party joined the victorious NARC coalition, solidifying our dedication to serving the people of Kenya. Maathai herself secured a parliamentary seat, establishing our presence and the importance of our values within the political landscape.
Diverse Engagement
In the subsequent 2007 Kenyan general election, Mazingira Greens Party played a role in the Party of National Unity led by President Mwai Kibaki. While being part of the coalition, we also fielded our own candidates, showcasing our commitment to independent representation and diverse political engagement. We celebrated a significant victory when Silas Muriuki, our party candidate, won a parliamentary seat, demonstrating our potential to bring positive change.
